Here’s the seventh episode of “Game of Growth” podcast series hosted by Truepush. All ears to Saumya Gupta, founder at Ten on Ten, as she reveals what it takes to build a successful D2C brand. She is one of the top 100 most talented Retail professionals of India and a mentor at Cherie Blair Foundation.
She was “The Entrepreneur of the year 2015” and shared her journey of growth. From a pilot to being an entrepreneur of a successful retail brand, Ten on Ten, Saumya had faced many challenges. When she returned to India, after completing her Pilot degree in 2008, the recession period offered no good opportunities. “There were a lot of ups and downs by doing odd jobs to finally find what was my calling. From being a receptionist to working in a call centre, I realized the only thing that made me happy till date is looking at clothes, wearing and owning different kinds of clothes. And, that’s where I decided, I had to do something with a new apparel brand”, shared Saumya.
The hurdles weren’t any less when Saumya initiated the apparel exhibition from her bedroom turned into a studio room. Acquiring new customers and capital were the two main hurdles. “I couldn’t spend much on digital marketing, all I could do was to tell my friends to like our Facebook page and tell their five friends to like the page”
Saumya believes, the being old school is still not out of fashion, and important tools for the growth of her brand would continue to be the:
- Repeat customers, and
- Providing comfort to her buyers and going beyond limits to achieve the lifetime value.
