What is your website? Can you narrate us the story behind building it? (What is the unique problem you’re trying to solve)
My website is RaspberryTips.com. Raspberry Pi is a tiny computer where you can install an operating system and build electronic circuits with it. My main goal is to help people getting started with it. As most of them are not using Linux systems on their computer, it’s not easy to start.
I created this website in July 2018 after buying my first Raspberry Pi. I had difficulties to find specific solutions for this device, so I started to share my tips on this blog.
Today this website gets over 100k views a month; I published a book on Amazon and I also started a YouTube channel. It became a small business and I have many projects to improve the service I provide to the visitors.
I’m French, and at the beginning, I wasn’t even sure that the readers could understand my English; and now there are thousands every day using my tips, that’s awesome 🙂
What are the various growth or marketing channels you’re trying to get more visitors on the website?
I’m mainly focused on organic traffic, so I keep updating and publishing new content each week. The traffic has been steadily growing like this since the beginning.
I tried the different social networks at the beginning. I was getting some decent results, but it was too much work for me compared to the visits I got from Google. So I almost stopped social media now (except Twitter that is mainly automatic, and YouTube).
Do you think customer retention is crucial for businesses? How do push notifications help in it?
Yes, it’s essential for me. My content can often be seen as a commodity; you have a problem, look for the solution, and never come back.
It’s really hard in this case to get the visitor’s email address. Push notifications help me to do a better job with this. It’s easier to subscribe to Truepush than to leave your email address to someone you don’t know.
This is the main step to help with the customer retention problem. If someone subscribes to the notifications, there is a better chance they’ll come back on the website later, and then to create a better relationship.
I like to stay in touch with my followers by email after that, but this first step is crucial, yes.
How do you plan out your push notification strategy? What are the parameters you consider while building it?
I’m mainly using the notifications to push new content (blog posts, videos, …) and special offers to the subscribers. For new content, it helps me to get traffic way faster than the organic method (and potentially helps the algorithm on Google and YouTube).
What is the most used push notification feature, and how it helped you in getting more conversion rates?
I like to keep this as simple as possible, so I’m not using so many features. Each time I schedule content, I also schedule a notification a few hours later on the publication date.
I also tried the “RSS to Push” feature in the past, but now I prefer to customize everything myself. Statistics are great, but I don’t use this so much. I just like to check the weekly email report to see how it goes.
How long have you been using Truepush, and how is it helping you achieve your business goals?
I don’t know exactly, probably between 16 and 24 months, I’m not sure when I started.
In the beginning, it really helped me get new visitors on each post, and also to stay motivated while the website didn’t get so much traffic.
This is still useful obviously, but I mostly see the potential when promoting sales. And it really helped my YouTube channel to get a minimal audience without waiting for organic growth.
